Summary of the bill.
The bill proposes to recognize decisions made through Indigenous community justice and Indigenous people’s access to justice. It would establish conditions for their participation in judicial and administrative proceedings with legal defense, interpretation and cultural expert assistance. It also provides for the participation of traditional authorities in certain measures, institutional staffing and notification duties, and additions to criminal procedure concerning defense and interpretation.
